FAQ's
What is Wi-Fi?
It's a value added service where you share your internet connection with your customers. They can use it to do business, study, entertain themselves, get in touch, send photos, get information, you name it.
Will it take off?
It's already taking off like mobile phones did in the eighties or like music downloads in the nineties. All new laptop and handheld computers have wireless equipment as standard.
Places near me offer wi-fi and hardly anyone uses it. Why?
Usually because their customers have to pay before they can use it! "Prepay" wi-fi has worked for large hotel chains because traveling business people could justify paying for it. Now that wireless computers are cheaper and more people have them, the same model is being tried in pubs and cafés. It seems attractive to publicans because they don't have to pay - some wi-fi companies even offer them small commissions. But not many customers want to pay for it so commissions earned are small. When the right venue offers the service free to their customers, lots of people use it.
Will free wi-fi work for me?
If you can promote your venue to customers who will use wi-fi then it will work for you. We can say that with some confidence because it's working so well for publicans, hoteliers and café owners in places like Brighton. Business people and students looking to work away from their desks, tourists wanting to send their emails and photographs home, anyone who wants to get online in comfortable surroundings
     - they're choosing venues with free hotspots.
Why should I pay for wi-fi and offer it free to my customers?
Prepaid wi-fi service is now in direct competition with the free version. For customers it's a no brainer - they won't pay for a service that they can get for free elsewhere. You'll find that offering free internet access will result in increased food and drink sales so in reality your customers pay for it.
Will it make me money?
Free internet access is a powerful draw that increases footfall, makes people stay longer and spend more; it's rather like showing premium sports fixtures
