Circus Circus 2 Preston Road Brighton East Sussex BN1 4QF 01273 620026 info@circus-circus.co.uk http://www.circus-circus.co.uk/ The building previously occupied by The Stanford Arms has undergone a dramatic transformation to become cafe bar Circus Circus. It is smack bang on Preston Circus in the midst of traffic, noise and dirt. Inside, however, is cool, calm and peaceful. It is beautifully light and airy even on the one hot day we`ve had so far this summer. The ceilings are high, the walls are bright and the staff are young and pretty. The crowd is mixed; students, twenties and thirties. There is a large bar area with a few tables and plenty of standing room. For quieter dining, there is a small separate restaurant section. active 1 Caffe Nero (Head Office) 3 Neal Street London WC2H 9PU 02075 205150 http://www.caffenero.com/ Caffè Nero Group Plc was founded in 1997 and is currently the largest independent coffee retailer in the UK, with over 217 Caffè Nero stores from Brighton to Glasgow. A taste of the US right here in London the hip bar/restaurant has already been a success in Notting Hill since opening in 2003, although we`re hoping for less after-office suit wearing in Brixon than Westbourne Grove. Serving up a cool selection of funky tunes, crazy cocktails and belly warming food in a chilled out environment this funky new venue has been brought to Brixton by Smiths of Smithfield`s Stuart Hopson Jones and legendary hip hop producer Arthur Baker. With a policy of real home cooked comfort food straight outta Compton (and beyond) this is a million miles from what we know as American ex pat food - less Maccy D`s more Mom`s apple pie, with a distinct lack of flame grilled whoppers and buckets of KFC on the menu. Anyone who has visited the US, or American`s living in London will appreciate the menu for just what it is - real food from across the pond for real people on this side, however early Harlem-adopters may remember the days when the quality of the food left a lot to be desired before their more recent menu facelift. With meals being cooked all day every day you`ll have plenty of chances to sample the Harlem Soul Food cuisine, from breakfast made up of blueberry pancakes, granola or Boston baked beans to dinner consisting of real American style steaks, burgers, ribs or mac and cheese, all of which is served up in to one o clock in the am for those who need to refuel after a night of drinking or before a morning of partying. Come the evening drinks and music are dish of the day, being served alongside the great American food. Fantastic cocktails, bottled beers and wines are all on offer behind the bar along with shorts and softs, all good choices to go along with the fabulous food and the all important music. Because, of course, this venues roots are really in the music industry, which means you can expect to catch the best new DJs and old faithfuls too, playing the funkiest old school sounds and the coolest new hip hop beats from around the planet. Just the place to meet with friends for a real American night out, a scrumptious lunch with your family or a late morning hangover cure (the Harlem Downtown Brunch and a Bloody Good Bloody Mary is highly recommended), Harlem Soul Food fits right in to Brixton, bringing a little bit of our sister city in to London. active 47 Harlem Soul Food 78 Westbourne Grove London W2 5RT 0207 850900 Harlem offers a first rate bar restaurant on the ground floor and an excellent little club downstairs. Arthur Baker is the brains behind this venue so as you might expect the tunes are impossibly fresh and the celebrity-studded crowd are unfeasibly good looking. The location in the heart of trendy West London reinforces the feeling that this bar may be too cool for school. But fear not… International stars like De La Soul have heard about the place and will suddenly pop by for a drink, creating mayhem among the friendly staff as they try and create some kind of VIP area… thankfully no such thing exists. In fact the main selling point of Harlem is that despite A-list DJs and celebrity clientele, the intimate setting destroys all pretensions. This down-to-earth, party policy is emphasised by the drinks prices, which are fair, even cheap for this area. A real surprise, and the icing on the cake for what is basically a venue much like many others. Harlem may know they are cool, but they want to play with us. The structure consisted of a wooden walkway four feet wide by some five-hundred feet long suspended by piers anchored into the river bed. For decades, the pier was the starting point for sailing to Stirling, with bands playing music aboard legendary steamers like the Ben Lomond and the Victoria. The pier also served bathers, who swam in the forth on warm summer days. It all came to an end in 1898, when a massive storm demolished the pier beyond repair. The pub was built on the site of the original pier`s booking office. The pub has become an Edinburgh landmark, in part because of the legendary publican Betty Moss, who ran the establishment from 1896 to 1968. According to the Edinburgh Evening News, she decorated the walls with souvenirs from around the world given to her from admiring seamen, including "flags, record covers, banners, hats, horns, shrunken heads, posters, cuttings, postcards, fans, stamps, mirrors, elephants, gnomes, a boomerang, a German infantryman’s helmet a French road sign, sporrans and drums—most with a story behind them that she could relate." She employed business practices not taught in any contemporary management courses, such as chasing out customers at closing with with an authentic samurai sword from Japan. Although much has changed over the last century, The Old Chain Pier remains an ideal venue for a drink, a meal, and a lovely view of the Forth. And in a keeping with modern times, the barmen are unarmed. active 65 Oxygen 115 The Headrow Leeds West Yorkshire WF9 2JX oxygen@thesensorycompany.co.uk active 66 Pavilion Gardens New Road Brighton BN1 1UG 01273 730712 active 68 Penventon Park Hotel West End Redruth Cornwall TR15 1TE 01209 203000 jayne@penventon.co.uk http://www.penventon.com active 70 Puccino`s Bistro and Café Bar Taskers Way Stratford Upon Avon Warwickshire CV37 6JU active 71 Puccino`s Felixstowe 42-44 Hamilton Road Felixstowe IP11 7AN 01394 278710 malcolm.catling@m3h.biz active 72 Radisson Edwardian Berkshire Hotel 350 Oxford Street London W1C 1BY 02076 297474 resberk@radisson.com http://www.radissonedwardian.com/londonuk_berkshire The Radisson Edwardian Berkshire Hotel is located in the very heart of London on Oxford Street, and close Bond Street, both famous for their shopping experiences and connections to Canary Wharf, Docklands, the West End, and the City.

The Berkshire is a freshly designed boutique hotel.
